Hello, we are a retired couple living on a small "farmette" near West Bend, Wisconsin.
We met while Roger was stationed at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas. We have two children
and three grandchildren. After we were married in Wichita, we moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado while
Roger was stationed at the AIr Force Academy. In 1971 Roger was released from active duty and we moved
to the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area where we spent the majority of our married life.
Sandra
worked with the Girls Scouts for many years while our daughter was growing up. She plays the clarinet,
is not afraid to tackle any sewing project, and enjoys science fiction, especially Star Trek and Star
Wars. But more than anything else, she enjoys horses.
During our years in Milwaukee, Sandy could only dabble in
her equine hobby, often visiting her sister in Kansas for a chance to ride. As
retirement grew near we decided to bite the bullet and Sandra acquired
a beautiful quarter horse mare called Pretty in Patches. We boarded
"Patches" at a stable just outside of town and Sandra was able to take
her to many horse shows. After retirement in 2003, we moved to the country and
Patches had an entire pasture to herself.
After a while we were forced to part with Patches and replaced her with
a miniature horse. Then we bought another miniature horse. Then we
bought another one ... Sandy is a happy camper when she is around horses.
Roger
spent his childhood years in the Milwaukee area where he too developed an interest in music, playing the
accordion. Later he extended his interest in music and learned to play the organ, piano and a little guitar.
When it became time for high school Roger thought the priesthood looked attractive and he entered the seminary.
For the next 10 years he attended high school, college and post-graduate studies in Indiana, Illinois,
Pennsylvania and Rome, Italy. While in Rome he determined that he did not, in fact, have a vocation to
the priesthood and stopped his seminary studies. He returned to Milwaukee and soon found that Uncle Sam
was inviting him to serve his country. Roger joined the Air Force and served as a newspaper editor for most
of his enrollment.
Upon returning to Milwaukee, he pursued his true passion - computers, and embarked on a career as a software engineer. He spent his early years working at Harnishfeger Corporation, then at a consulting firm, and finally, he and a couple of other courageous souls started a company to develop software and hardware
solutions for radiology departments in hospitals. That company is now Merge Healthcare and is traded on
the Nasdaq Stock Exchange (MRGE) Now that he's retired, Roger spends his time working on genealogy,
traveling a bit, and, of course, helping Sandy out with the horses.
